Building the Hunt 80: Form and Function

Posted on Wed, Nov 12, 2014

Pure functionality is evident everywhere onboard the new Hunt 80, including the ergonomically laid out galley. A door just aft of the galley leads directly to the weatherdecks, or opens to let in a little seabreeze as needed.

Posted on Thu, Oct 9, 2014

The Hunt 80 hull structure has been installed, with the stringers forward of the waterjet cut-outs in the bottom of the hull beefed up to serve as engine beds. The engine beds must be strong and stiff enough to support the engines and also heavy enough to absorb vibrations, preventing them from being transmitted through the rest of the yacht. The engine room is finished in white to improve visibility inside the space and make it easier to keep clean.

Building the Hunt 80: Stringers and Coring

Posted on Tue, Sep 23, 2014

The inner fiberglass laminate for the Hunt 80 has been applied over the foam core, completing the continuous structural I-beam created by the core and inner and other hull skins. Note the solid laminate overlaps at the chines, adding extra strength and compression resistance to handle the loads induced by lifting straps. Coring creates a very stiff and strong structure while reducing weight substantially compared to a solid fiberglass hull. The first two stringer sections are seen in place forward to port and starboard of the keel.
